Tuberculosis was very prevalent in Saurashtra in 1940’s. Hence the ruler of Bhavnagar proposed the starting of a T.B.Hospital. A prominent businessman of Bhavnagar Mr.Kushaldas Mehta took initiative and donated money in 1945 to establish T.B. hospital, which had the first fully equipped operation theatre in Saurashtra.
The K. J. Mehta T. B. Hospital trust came into inception on 12-04-1945 with the foundation stone laying ceremony done by the then ruler of Bhavnagar Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji. The hospital started functioning on 13th April 1949, which was inaugurated by the then governor of Saurashtra Jamsahib Digvijay Singh.
Due to less humidity and vast open surroundings Songadh was chosen as the proposed site for developing a T.B.Hospital. A T.B.reasearch center was inaugurated in 1978 by then chief minister of Gujarat Morarjeebhai Desai.
At present the trust is managed by The President and Its Subordinate bodies.
K.J.MEHTA TRUST:
- Shri Khushaldas J.Mehta kshay Nivaran Hospital Trust is registered by Bombay public Trust Act 1950 having register no F/28. It is also registered by Registration of Society act 1860.
- After DOT came T.B. Hospital patient become extinct and hence converted into General Hospital having facility of various departments viz, Causality, Laboratory, Radiology, Surgery, Medicine ,ENT, Orthopeadic, , Gaynecology, Pediatrics & Opthalmology.
- It was functional 150 seats medical college in 2008 but close by unknown reasons in 2010.
MANAGEMENT VISION: To start Super Specialty Hospital with Medical College.
